Any woman can create something magnificent out of nothing when she has a dream!

Stories are priceless teachers. It is amazing how a parable speaks directly to our situation or the story of someone else's journey gives us the courage to begin ours. I trust that you will be energized by what you read here. One day other young lady eagles will be inspired by your journey, how you courageously took to the skies, destined to fly.

May you soar to heights yet unexplored, Lady Eagle,

If you think athletes are the only ones that need a good coach, you're dead wrong. One unlikely group who remain in continual and desperate need of a good, strong voice-of-direction are writers. Be they fiction or fact, fantasy or textbook authors, all wordsmiths need rock solid advice and terminal encouragement from the first sentence of their masterpiece to the last. I was and remain just such a writer!

Like a kid building a dream sandcastle at the beach, I was absolutely convinced publishers would see my children's picture book for the absolutely unique, brilliant creation that it is and like the incoming tide, overwhelm me with contracts. That's not exactly what happened. What did happen was scores and scores of rewrites, editing and more editing, an almost complete overhaul before the book emerged in its final version. Even the title was wrong and had to be changed.

Gullah, The Nawleans Cat Meets Katrina was written for the kids and the first responders to Hurricane Katrina. A Florida native and hurricane survivor myself, after witnessing the storm's horror on television, I wanted to help my fellow Southerners. Inspired with a story of a little French Quarter cat-victim and fully motivated, nevertheless, I needed encouragement and practical advice. In short I needed a coach if I was ever to get this dream book to stand on its own four legs.

Voila! Reba Hoffman arrived on the scene and things began to look much sunnier. Her knowledge, structural skills, and practical application combined with a sensitive approach to a writer often struggling with insecurity and doubts made a huge difference. Not only can Reba coach effectively but she is a trusted friend with an uncanny way of knowing just what a person needs when they need it.

Gullah, The Nawleans Cat Meets Katrina is out in the market now and a portion of the proceeds go to Katrina relief organizations. Kids everywhere who have read the book, or have listened to me reading at their schools are delighted. The day I presented Reba with an autographed copy was a stellar event for me. After all, she was the coach who reminded me of that time-honored truth:  "When the going gets tough, the tough get going."

Writers, generally solitary people, don't have to go it alone. Get yourself a good coach. Get Reba Hoffman and I guarantee you'll be going places for a long time to come!

At Home Alone...

The day I accepted that I was different was by far the most liberating day of my life. I'm a deep thinker. I'm most at home when totally alone in the middle of nowhere. Just me and my thoughts communing with God's creation.

I hate social events and avoid them like the plague. In fact, I'd rather catch the plague than to go to a cocktail party. In the absence of a good bacteria, a nice brain tumor will do. Anything to avoid dressing up and pretending to be having a good time while exchanging meaningless babble with hollow scarecrows. Honestly.

Jeans, t-shirt and ball cap are my Robe pour le dour. Though murder is illegal in my state, I could strangle the guy who invented panty hose. What was he thinking?

My time served in the Corporate Prison was not without its benefits. I attended "business" meetings in the backrooms of exotic restaurants in world famous cities. You know, the ones that use whole lobsters for centerpieces. The only joy I got was knowing that, in the pecking order, the lobsters were at the center of the table while the corporate shrimps graveled for a place.

Year after year I received nothing but the highest praise but to this day I cannot figure out exactly what it was that I did. I got sick of it. Of more concern is that I became sick FROM it. Literally. My body shut down. I had no choice but to walk away from the American Dream job and not look back.

Today I am at peace. I live my life the way my heart dictates. I don't try to impress others or try to be someone else. I can look at someone and say, "this is who I am. You can take me or leave me but, if you take me, what you see is who you get."

I'm not against the corporate world. Not if you're in it because that's your heart call. But I vehemently oppose the drudgery of existing through a career and life you should be living abundantly through. Cancer taught me that we are not in a dress rehearsal. This is our one shot at life. I intend to live it to the absolute fullest.

I don't intend to waste a single moment. I live to coach... to guide single women into the fulfillment that only their own heart can orchestrate. I stopped working the day I began being true to myself and began to soar.

Regrets? Only one. I wish I'd done it sooner.
